News of the North

Thursday, January 21, 2010

I recently met the editor and board members from a local non profit news source.  News of the North (newsofthenorth.net) is name of the online “newspaper” and they have been doing an excellent job of covering news stories in the northwoods in a real time fashion.

They were the media to break the Wells Fargo Bond story, along with the coverage of Saturday’s Tribal Chairman meeting.

Joe Costanza has a broad editorial background, and has expressed interest in covering Vilas and in particular Lac du Flambeau newsworthy stories.

I believe that Lac du Flambeau tribal members finally have an unbiased medium for getting their voices heard, along with much needed coverage of business and human interest stories on our reservation.

News of the North is also looking for newsworthy stories and welcomes submissions from interested writers.

Contact information is on their website, and I have added a link to their site in the links column.

Just wanted to say that I enjoy the format of this website. Good news about things happening in town, good information on new things like this blog, mixed in with a lot of complaining and gossiping! Good job fellas!!

Ny news concerning the FBI investigation that is supposed to be going on in Lac Du Flambeau?

  3. IROMI says:

    Hello Tuffy,

You are essentially very observant. The Newly elected Tribal Council, a one of its first actions, adopted a resolution to request an investigation by the FBI and “other appropriate agencies”. However, a formal letter to the FBI or to any other agency requesting an investigation from the Tribal Secretary or any other tribal official has not been made public to our tribal members to date. Supposedly, an FBI official did visit with the former acting Tribal Administrator William “Buzz” Beson, but the meeting was held in private, and two council persons were denied admittance to the meeting. (Mr. Beson was removed from his position as “Acting Tribal Administrator” on Friday, January 21, 2010, by the Tribal Council.)
